Code, Public Safety § 3–216","heading":"","body":"(a) A law enforcement agency may not employ an individual as a police officer for a period not exceeding 1 year unless the individual is certified by the Commission.\n(b) (1) In this subsection, “nonfull-time police officer” means an individual who does not work in the law enforcement field at least 7 months during the calendar year.\n(2) The certification requirements of subsection (a) of this section do not apply to the nonfull-time police officers of a law enforcement agency that:\n(i) employs, during a calendar year, at least 70 full-time sworn police officers; and\n(ii) employs at least 100 nonfull-time police officers.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=3-216","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"91bad335510b7e5df54f953c245db1c78005f034c4115c59b25327f576fbeb64","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-3-215","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-3-217"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
