Code, Public Safety § 5–304","heading":"","body":"(a) An application for a permit shall be made under oath.\n(b) (1) Subject to subsections (c) and (d) of this section, the Secretary may charge a nonrefundable fee payable when an application is filed for a permit.\n(2) The fee may not exceed:\n(i) $125 for an initial application;\n(ii) $75 for a renewal or subsequent application; and\n(iii) $20 for a duplicate or modified permit.\n(3) The fees under this subsection are in addition to the fees authorized under § 5–305 of this subtitle.\n(c) The Secretary may reduce the fee under subsection (b) of this section accordingly for a permit that is granted for one day only and at one place only.\n(d) The Secretary may not charge a fee under subsection (b) of this section to:\n(1) a State, county, or municipal public safety employee who is required to carry, wear, or transport a handgun as a condition of governmental employment; or\n(2) a retired law enforcement officer of the State or a county or municipal corporation of the State.\n(e) The applicant shall pay a fee under this section by an electronic check, a credit card, or a method of online payment approved by the Secretary.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=5-304","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"2cbc9195b087ead8edb642f9fbe036b06d21062129cd0282c6d691b76d37f1e1","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-5-303","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-5-305"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
