Code, Public Safety § 9–401","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) (1) “High–rise building” means a building for human occupancy that is:\n(i) four or more stories above grade level; or\n(ii) over 45 feet in height.\n(2) “High–rise building” does not include:\n(i) a structure or building used exclusively for open air parking; or\n(ii) a building used exclusively for agricultural purposes.\n(c) “Local fire department” means a career or volunteer fire department.\n(d) “Mobility impaired” means unable to carry objects or to move or travel without the use of an assistive device or service animal.\n(e) “Public way” means a paved thoroughfare over 21 feet in width that:\n(1) is located on privately owned and privately maintained property but is designated for public use; or\n(2) is publicly owned and publicly maintained.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=9-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"e12b4ec045d6705e41c104da71c626c062ea2b2ffd9a457c1a1642ac4a888f68","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-9-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-9-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
