Code, Public Utilities § 18–107","heading":"","body":"(a) The Commission may establish a merit system that includes all of its employees except:\n(1) the general manager, secretary, treasurer, and chief engineer;\n(2) the head of a department;\n(3) (i) the inspector general; and\n(ii) any temporary employee of the Office of the Inspector General appointed under § 17–603 of this article; and\n(4) a part time, temporary, or contract employee.\n(b) The Commission may:\n(1) appoint or promote a merit system employee to the position of general manager, department head, or inspector general or designate a merit system employee as the general manager, department head, or inspector general on an acting basis;\n(2) retain the employee in the merit system in the position or grade from which the employee was appointed or promoted; and\n(3) continue to exclude the positions of general manager, department head, and inspector general from the merit system.","path":["Article - Public Utilities"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gpu\u0026section=18-107","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:28Z","sha256":"5ea707a1ada276958f37223b6b0330826eeb26b7cb9c14f2861753141a92317f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-18-106","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-18-108"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
