Code, Public Utilities § 18–111","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “Eligible veteran” means a veteran of any branch of the uniformed services who has received an honorable discharge or a certificate of satisfactory completion of service, including:\n(i) a reserve component;\n(ii) the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service; and\n(iii) the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.\n(3) “Reserve component” has the meaning stated in § 9–901 of the State Government Article.\n(4) “Veteran” has the meaning stated in § 9–901 of the State Government Article.\n(b) The Commission may grant a preference in hiring and promotion to:\n(1) an eligible veteran;\n(2) the spouse of an eligible veteran who has a service–connected disability; or\n(3) the surviving spouse of a deceased eligible veteran.\n(c) Granting a preference under subsection (b) of this section does not violate any State or local equal employment opportunity law.","path":["Article - Public Utilities"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gpu\u0026section=18-111","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:28Z","sha256":"8f9f4a10b4ac8bb508860803e5eebe5b1de2506d9e09e55b684e1215c7431b56","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-18-108","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-18-114"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
