Code, Public Utilities § 2–102","heading":"","body":"(a) The Commission consists of five commissioners, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.\n(b) (1) Each commissioner shall be a registered voter of the State.\n(2) The Commission shall be:\n(i) broadly representative of the geographic and demographic diversity of the State and of the public; and\n(ii) composed of individuals with diverse training and experience.\n(c) Each commissioner shall devote full time to the duties of office.\n(d) (1) The term of a commissioner is 5 years and begins on July 1.\n(2) The terms of commissioners are staggered as required by the terms in effect for commissioners on July 1, 2006.\n(3) At the end of a term, a commissioner continues to serve until a successor qualifies.\n(4) A commissioner who is appointed after a term has begun serves for the rest of the term and until a successor qualifies.\n(e) Before taking office, each appointee to the Commission shall take the oath required by Article I, § 9 of the Maryland Constitution.\n(f) The Governor may remove a commissioner for incompetence or misconduct in accordance with § 3-307 of the State Government Article.","path":["Article - Public Utilities"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gpu\u0026section=2-102","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:28Z","sha256":"03a0c26425bc8b2ca7738d56fc25a6a6f68d8701e30a325ec67a139a819095b0","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-2-101","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-2-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
