Code, Public Utilities § 8–108","heading":"","body":"(a) A telegraph company doing business in this State shall:\n(1) receive telegrams from and for other telegraph companies and from or for any individual; and\n(2) except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, transmit telegrams received:\n(i) in the manner established by the rules and regulations of the telegraph company;\n(ii) in the order received; and\n(iii) with impartiality and good faith.\n(b) Subsection (a) of this section does not apply to a telegraph company that makes an arrangement with newspapers for the transmission of information of general and public interest out of the order received for the purpose of publication.\n(c) A telegraph company that violates subsection (a) of this section is liable to the person sending or desiring to send the telegram for:\n(1) $100 for each instance of neglect or refusal to receive or transmit a telegram; and\n(2) the costs of the suit.","path":["Article - Public Utilities"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gpu\u0026section=8-108","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:28Z","sha256":"fe74fe2f1973bc58483c1d707099f8d4e0adcabb5d473ff0775d0d2bc2868c5d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-8-107","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-utilities-8-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
