Code, Real Property § 13–401","heading":"","body":"The following persons may file an objection to the granting of a patent for all or any portion of the land described in the application:\n(1) Any person or governmental body with prior title to any portion of the land, except that, if the land is land for which a patent never has been issued, the State and its agencies may object only in accordance with item (3) of this section;\n(2) Any person who possesses any portion of the land under claim of ownership in a manner that, either directly or by tacking, is actual, open, notorious, exclusive, and continuous and uninterrupted for the 20 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application; and\n(3) The State or any agency of the State that requires any portion of the land for public purposes.","path":["Article - Real Property"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=grp\u0026section=13-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:38Z","sha256":"80243e13cb69e283d13a1f72feafb71435cdd75b726eec9ca050a0fbae04901a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-real-property-13-313","next":"us-md/md.-code-real-property-13-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
