Code, Real Property § 3–701","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Document” means information that is:\n(1) Inscribed on a tangible medium or stored in an electronic or other medium and retrievable in perceivable form; and\n(2) Eligible to be recorded in the land records maintained by the clerk of a circuit court.\n(c) “Electronic” means relating to technology having electrical, digital, magnetic, optical, electromagnetic, or similar capabilities.\n(d) “Electronic document” means a document that is received by the clerk of a circuit court in electronic form.\n(e) “Electronic signature” means an electronic sound, symbol, or process attached to or logically associated with a document and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the document.\n(f) “Person” means an individual, a corporation, a statutory trust, a personal representative of an estate, a trustee, a partnership, a limited liability company, an association, a joint venture, a public corporation, a government, a governmental subdivision, an agency, an instrumentality, or any other legal or commercial entity.\n(g) “State” means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, or any territory or insular possession subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.","path":["Article - Real Property"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=grp\u0026section=3-701","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:38Z","sha256":"dabf85c464a3ee8e820bdd74dd97c86329a60a97fba1ccdfb8151de94cca964a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-real-property-3-603","next":"us-md/md.-code-real-property-3-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
