Code, State Finance and Procurement § 16–101","heading":"","body":"(a) In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Business” means an individual or a corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, joint venture, or other legal entity through which commercial activity is conducted.\n(c) “Contract” means any agreement in any form.\n(d) “Controlling stockholder” means a stockholder who:\n(1) owns more than 25% of the voting stock of a corporation; or\n(2) notwithstanding the number of shares that the stockholder owns, has the power to direct or control the direction of the management or policies of a corporation.\n(e) “Convicted” includes an accepted plea of nolo contendere.\n(f) “Public body” means:\n(1) the State;\n(2) a unit; or\n(3) a local governmental entity in the State, including a bicounty or multicounty governmental entity.","path":["Article - State Finance and Procurement"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsf\u0026section=16-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:48Z","sha256":"d2bc3f854515cb33d11fa9da1bad05f17eb78124f85c1665ea0c25c323bcbc6f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-finance-and-procurement-15-226","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-finance-and-procurement-16-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
