Code, State Finance and Procurement § 9–103","heading":"","body":"(a) There is a State Insurance Program for providing and administering purchased insurance and self-insurance for the State, including:\n(1) insurance on State property;\n(2) insurance that federal law requires;\n(3) insurance trust agreements; and\n(4) insurance against other risk or commitment of the State.\n(b) (1) There is a State Insurance Trust Fund.\n(2) The Fund consists of:\n(i) each General Fund and special fund appropriation in the State budget to the Treasurer or a unit of the State government for self-insurance;\n(ii) each General Fund and special fund appropriation to the State Insurance Trust Fund for payment under Title 12, Subtitle 5 of the State Government Article;\n(iii) each premium that a unit of the State government pays for protection under the Fund;\n(iv) each payment for a loss under purchased insurance; and\n(v) each payment from salvage or other recovery that results from a loss paid through the Program.\n(3) The General Assembly intends that the State budget include sufficient General Fund appropriations to provide in the State Insurance Trust Fund a reserve that the Treasurer considers adequate to cover losses under § 9-105 of this title.","path":["Article - State Finance and Procurement"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsf\u0026section=9-103","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:48Z","sha256":"6d405347f100d3b0c721dc52759d4f52f257a0d07df75d12292db8ccea37f101","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-finance-and-procurement-9-102","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-finance-and-procurement-9-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
