Code, State Government § 10–226","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “License” means all or any part of permission that:\n(i) is required by law to be obtained from a unit;\n(ii) is not required only for revenue purposes; and\n(iii) is in any form, including:\n1. an approval;\n2. a certificate;\n3. a charter;\n4. a permit; or\n5. a registration.\n(3) “Unit” means an officer or unit that is authorized by law to:\n(i) adopt regulations subject to Subtitle 1 of this title; or\n(ii) adjudicate contested cases under this subtitle.\n(b) If, at least 2 calendar weeks before a license expires, the licensee makes sufficient application for renewal of the license, the license does not expire until:\n(1) the unit takes final action on the application; and\n(2) either:\n(i) the time for seeking judicial review of the action expires; or\n(ii) any judicial stay of the unit’s final action expires.\n(c) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, a unit may not revoke or suspend a license unless the unit first gives the licensee:\n(i) written notice of the facts that warrant suspension or revocation; and\n(ii) an opportunity to be heard.\n(2) A unit may order summarily the suspension of a license if the unit:\n(i) finds that the public health, safety, or welfare imperatively requires emergency action; and\n(ii) promptly gives the licensee:\n1. written notice of the suspension, the finding, and the reasons that support the finding; and\n2. an opportunity to be heard.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=10-226","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"236ae0b46aee8e6e1cf1dee4ba0393e58c383f3fa9f527f76fe2dc03a256a533","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-10-225","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-10-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
