Code, State Government § 17–108","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not affect an appointment:\n(1) of an officer who requires special knowledge or training; or\n(2) to an office that requires expert knowledge or training.\n(b) An individual may not be appointed to any office in the State unless the individual has been a bona fide resident of the State for at least 12 months before the day of the individual’s appointment.\n(c) A State or county official may not appoint an individual unless the individual has been a bona fide resident of the State for at least 12 months and of the county in which the individual is appointed for at least 6 months before the day of the individual’s appointment.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=17-108","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"79557de37e9f0161a22c0655040fb37f166eee3c443e9b49b8c2203cee90976e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-17-107","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-17-109"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
