Code, State Government § 18–212","heading":"","body":"(a) A notarial act performed under federal law has the same effect under the laws of this State as if performed by a notarial officer of this State, if the act performed under federal law is performed by:\n(1) a notary public of a court;\n(2) an individual in military service or performing duties under the authority of military service who is authorized to perform notarial acts under federal law;\n(3) an individual designated a notarizing officer by the U.S. Department of State for performing notarial acts overseas; or\n(4) any other individual authorized by federal law to perform the notarial act.\n(b) The signature and title of an individual performing a notarial act under federal law are prima facie evidence that:\n(1) the signature is genuine; and\n(2) the individual holds the designated title.\n(c) The signature and title of a notarial officer listed in subsection (a)(1), (2), or (3) of this section conclusively establish the authority of the notarial officer to perform the notarial act.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=18-212","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"2f30e82b1ea5ef253133ec7215077a3be9cdc0a3a8c8c709d52b48487baccb8b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-18-211","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-18-213"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
