Code, State Government § 8–401","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Committees of jurisdiction” means the committees of the General Assembly that routinely handle the policy issues and legislation related to a specific governmental activity or unit subject to review under this subtitle.\n(c) “Department” means the Department of Legislative Services.\n(d) “Evaluation” means the process of legislative review of a governmental activity or unit used to determine:\n(1) whether the governmental activity or unit should be reestablished or terminated; and\n(2) what, if any, statutory or nonstatutory changes should be recommended to the General Assembly to improve the operations of the governmental activity or unit.\n(e) “Governmental activity” means a program, service, or other function of government.\n(f) “Office” means the office in the Department of Legislative Services designated by the Executive Director of the Department.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=8-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"0a445f0d33dfa2c32a5fa88f064e9b869cecc534f283c48eec27590cc872a08a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-8-3a-02","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-8-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
