Code, State Government § 8–402","heading":"","body":"(a) The General Assembly finds that:\n(1) a framework that allows for periodic, legislative review of the regulatory, licensing, and other governmental activities of the Executive Branch of the State government is essential for the maintenance of a government in which the citizens have confidence and of a healthy State economy; and\n(2) this legislative review is consistent with other activities and goals of the General Assembly.\n(b) The purposes of this subtitle are to:\n(1) establish a system of legislative review that will:\n(i) determine whether a governmental activity is necessary for the public interest; and\n(ii) make units that are responsible for necessary governmental activities accountable and responsive to the public interest; and\n(2) ensure that the legislative review takes place by establishing, by statute, a process for the review and other legislative action.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=8-402","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"c6a0f6d1339add76e7c42d6a3e8b72b26c8fbb7afd45499edca8bbff62e35b96","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-8-401","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-8-403"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
