Code, State Government § 9–2414","heading":"","body":"(a) The Board shall:\n(1) license qualified individuals to provide sign language interpretation services;\n(2) on or before July 1, 2024, establish and publish licensing requirements for sign language interpreting in all settings;\n(3) provide technical assistance to license applicants and other interested persons;\n(4) promote the profession of sign language interpreting, including providing workshops and trainings to raise public awareness and to facilitate professional development; and\n(5) perform any other duties assigned by the Director.\n(b) In addition to any duties set forth elsewhere in this subtitle and with the support of the Office, the Board shall:\n(1) administer the provisions of this part;\n(2) adopt bylaws for the conduct of its proceedings;\n(3) adopt a seal;\n(4) keep a record of its proceedings;\n(5) keep a file on each applicant for a license;\n(6) establish a visiting sign language interpreter registry;\n(7) develop and maintain a website that shall include:\n(i) a portal to accept license applications and related documentation, complaints, and registrations of visiting sign language interpreters; and\n(ii) a publicly searchable database of sign language interpreters; and\n(8) reasonably seek additional funding sources.\n(c) In addition to any powers set forth elsewhere, the Board may adopt regulations to carry out the provisions of this part.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9-2414","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"db06ddfc4dc92ef3a51bf69a49945ac7e31ce39cfbfcac7501c6d7a392746cfc","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2413","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2415"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
