Code, State Government § 9–2415","heading":"","body":"(a) The Board may establish criteria for the development of portfolios and separate requirements in the following specialist areas:\n(1) legal settings;\n(2) medical settings;\n(3) behavioral health settings;\n(4) language pairs other than American Sign Language and spoken English;\n(5) conference interpreting;\n(6) tactile and low–vision sign language interpretation services;\n(7) intralinguistic translations and sign language interpretation; and\n(8) any other specialist areas determined to be necessary by the Board.\n(b) The Board shall adopt regulations to:\n(1) govern sign language interpretation services provided in a video remote interpreting setting;\n(2) establish licensing and certification standards of interpreting agencies that do business in the State;\n(3) allow deaf and hard of hearing individuals to determine whether they prefer sign language interpretation services being provided in a video remote interpreting setting or through in–person interpreting; and\n(4) provide sign language interpretation services in a video remote interpreting setting.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9-2415","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"230aed6656e87cf6aa4d0712b73755e3e5a08b8a675ec7e6bf41bb0e7bd4e424","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2414","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2416"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
