Code, State Government § 9–2605","heading":"","body":"The Corporation may:\n(1) adopt an official seal;\n(2) sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in its own name;\n(3) maintain offices in the State;\n(4) appoint museum advisory boards and other advisory boards and committees;\n(5) adopt bylaws for the regulation of its affairs and the conduct of its business;\n(6) apply for and accept grants, loans, or assistance of any character from the federal government, State government, a local government, or a private source;\n(7) enter into any contract or other legal instrument;\n(8) acquire, construct, develop, manage, market, reconstruct, rehabilitate, improve, maintain, equip, lease as lessor or as lessee, repair, or operate any project in the State;\n(9) acquire, purchase, hold, lease as lessee, or use a franchise, patent, or license or any real, personal, mixed, tangible, or intangible property or any interest in that property, necessary or convenient for carrying out the purposes of the Corporation;\n(10) sell, lease as lessor, transfer, or dispose of its property or interests in property;\n(11) acquire, either directly or by or through any person, State unit, or political subdivision, by purchase or by gift or devise, any land, structure, real property, personal property, right, right-of-way, franchise, easement, or other interest in land, including land lying under water and riparian rights that the Corporation considers necessary or convenient for the construction, improvement, rehabilitation, or operation of a project, on any terms and at any price that the Corporation considers reasonable;\n(12) enter with the permission of the owner on land, water, or premises for the purpose of making surveys, soundings, borings, and examinations to accomplish any purpose authorized by this subtitle;\n(13) fix, revise, and collect rates, rentals, fees, and charges for the use of, or for services and facilities provided or made available by, the Corporation;\n(14) (i) borrow money from any source for any corporate purpose, including working capital for its operations, reserves, or interest;\n(ii) mortgage, pledge, or otherwise encumber the property and money of the Corporation; and\n(iii) contract with or engage the services of any person for any financing;\n(15) exercise all the corporate powers granted to Maryland corporations under the Maryland General Corporation Law; and\n(16) do all things necessary and convenient to carry out the powers granted by this subtitle.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9-2605","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"0b7b823eb6ea29aeeb43954b139453c08b00b91d18ebaec471aedbe0454aff53","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2604","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-2606"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
