Code, State Government § 9–3703","heading":"","body":"(a) The Commission consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.\n(b) The members shall:\n(1) represent the entire community of the State;\n(2) know about African American culture and history;\n(3) be sensitive to the problems of minority communities; and\n(4) be connected with agencies working to integrate minority history and culture into the history of the State and American culture.\n(c) (1) The term of a member is 4 years.\n(2) The terms of the members are staggered as required by the terms provided for members of the Commission on October 1, 2005, and October 1, 2011.\n(3) A member who is appointed after a term has begun serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed and qualifies.\n(d) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, a member may be reappointed.\n(2) A member who has served two consecutive four–year terms may not be reappointed until at least one year has elapsed after the end of the previous term.\n(e) The Governor may remove a member for incompetence or misconduct.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9-3703","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"4ecff925b26ab923bf21a94e207e876fc857924accae0309b469c849a3ec955f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-3702","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9-3704"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
