Code, State Government § 9.5–307","heading":"","body":"The Commission shall:\n(1) initiate, direct, and coordinate projects that further the understanding of Indian history and culture;\n(2) survey historic buildings, sites, artifacts, archives, and repositories and publish and disseminate the results;\n(3) make a comprehensive study of the influence of indigenous Indian tribes and their influence on Maryland history and culture, including as subjects of the study:\n(i) Cherokees;\n(ii) Chippewas;\n(iii) Choptanks;\n(iv) Creeks;\n(v) Crees;\n(vi) Delawares;\n(vii) Haliwas;\n(viii) Lumbees;\n(ix) Nanticokes;\n(x) Piscataways;\n(xi) Potomacs;\n(xii) Rappahannocks;\n(xiii) Seminoles;\n(xiv) Susquehannas; and\n(xv) Wicomicos;\n(4) study the status of all Indian communities in the State and assist them in obtaining recognition from the federal government;\n(5) study the economic and social needs of Indians in the State and make recommendations to meet these needs;\n(6) locate, preserve, and disseminate to the public information about significant buildings and sites relating to Indian history and culture in the State; and\n(7) publish an annual report and any other material the Commission considers necessary.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9.5-307","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"5c200d9f0ea78a00a8e941181f4dbdfdc56132680d89524e8d66f7d9d5358fcf","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9.5-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9.5-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
