Code, State Government § 9.5–503","heading":"","body":"(a) The Commission consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.\n(b) The members shall:\n(1) to the extent practicable, be members of the LGBTQIA+ community;\n(2) include at least two transgender individuals;\n(3) to the extent practicable, reflect the age, gender, gender identity or expression, ancestral, national origin, color, disability, religious, sex, sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic diversity of the State;\n(4) know about issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities and be sensitive to the problems of LGBTQIA+ communities;\n(5) be representatives of the State’s LGBTQIA+ communities or have an interest in the success of LGBTQIA+ communities; and\n(6) provide value to the work of the Commission.\n(c) (1) The term of a member is 4 years.\n(2) The terms of members are staggered as required by the terms provided for members of the Commission on October 1, 2023.\n(3) At the end of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed and qualifies.\n(4) A member who is appointed after a term has begun serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed and qualifies.\n(d) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, a member may be reappointed.\n(2) A member who has served two consecutive 4–year terms may not be reappointed until at least 1 year has elapsed after the end of the previous term.\n(e) The Governor may remove a member for incompetence or misconduct.\n(f) A member who fails to attend at least 50% of the regularly scheduled meetings during a 12–month period shall be considered to have resigned from the Commission.","path":["Article - State Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsg\u0026section=9.5-503","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:58Z","sha256":"2f52825de81299d1bf29b640ba9b9712a41affd6a0ce5374a685debff3323061","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9.5-502","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-government-9.5-504"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
