Code, State Personnel and Pensions § 2–512","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “qualifying nonprofit organization” means an organization that:\n(1) (i) receives State funds from the Maryland Department of Health that cover more than one–third of the organization’s operating expenses; and\n(ii) is:\n1. described in § 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; and\n2. exempt from income tax under § 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code;\n(2) is the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc.;\n(3) is a corporation, a limited liability company, or any other entity that is wholly owned by the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc.; or\n(4) is the Maryland Crime Victims’ Resource Center.\n(b) The Secretary shall adopt regulations for the enrollment and participation of employees of a qualifying nonprofit organization to participate in the Program as a satellite organization.\n(c) A qualifying nonprofit organization that participates in the Program as a satellite organization shall:\n(1) pay to the State:\n(i) a premium in the amount determined by the Secretary; and\n(ii) any costs, as determined by the Secretary, for the administration of this Program; and\n(2) determine the extent to which the organization will subsidize participation by its employees in the Program.\n(d) The participation of a satellite organization in the Program may not impede, undermine, or conflict with the Program’s federal compliance obligations or governmental and cafeteria plan status, as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 125.","path":["Article - State Personnel and Pensions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsp\u0026section=2-512","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:07Z","sha256":"50c7acf23f52d169048d8a0575fd318b1d0f39956a3eac7078a99716961a987f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-personnel-and-pensions-2-511","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-personnel-and-pensions-2-513"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
