Code, State Personnel and Pensions § 24–305","heading":"","body":"(a) A member may purchase service credit as provided in subsection (b) of this section:\n(1) for a period of employment when the member was on an employer-approved leave of absence not exceeding 2 years that has qualified for purchase under regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees; or\n(2) when membership was mandatory but for which member contributions were not made.\n(b) (1) A member who purchases service credit under this section shall:\n(i) complete a claim for the service credit and file it with the Board of Trustees on the form that the Board of Trustees provides; and\n(ii) pay to the Board of Trustees in a single payment the member contributions the member would have made for the period of employment for which service credit is being purchased plus regular interest to the date of payment.\n(2) A member may pay for service credit purchased under this section at any time before retirement.","path":["Article - State Personnel and Pensions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gsp\u0026section=24-305","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:07Z","sha256":"dfd7c82d092c27d2dc6c6d4e99ee93eb3190639cec81444edb9aeb4a8b65eeaf","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-state-personnel-and-pensions-24-304.1","next":"us-md/md.-code-state-personnel-and-pensions-24-306"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
