Code, Transportation § 2–701","heading":"","body":"(a) The General Assembly finds that the State must have sustainable communities in order to:\n(1) Preserve and protect the State’s natural resources; and\n(2) Achieve the State’s economic growth, resource protection, and planning policy in § 5–7A–01 of the State Finance and Procurement Article.\n(b) The General Assembly finds that sustainable communities are places where public and private investments and partnerships achieve:\n(1) Development of a healthy local economy;\n(2) Protection and appreciation of historic and cultural resources;\n(3) A mix of land uses;\n(4) Affordable and sustainable housing and job options; and\n(5) Growth and development practices that protect the environment and conserve air, water, and energy resources, encourage walkability and recreational opportunities, and, where available, create access to transit.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=2-701","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"dfb639b02a447f103d78458bc030414c2cea207a36cbadc291ef46ec27b55869","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-2-608","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-2-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
