{"data":{"id":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-1107","jurisdiction":"us-md","citation":"Md. Code, Transportation § 21–1107","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to subsection (c) of this section, this section applies to:\n(1) A truck that has a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more; and\n(2) A truck/trailer or truck tractor/semitrailer or trailer combination that has a combined gross vehicle weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more.\n(b) While a vehicle subject to this section is being operated on a highway:\n(1) The driver may not allow a person to occupy the area of the vehicle primarily intended to carry cargo; and\n(2) A person may not occupy the area of the vehicle primarily intended to carry cargo.\n(c) This section does not apply to:\n(1) An attendant delegated to care for livestock;\n(2) A vehicle that is controlled or operated by a farmer and is:\n(i) Used to transport agricultural products, farm machinery, or farm supplies to or from a farm;\n(ii) Not used in the operations of a common or contract motor carrier; and\n(iii) Used within 150 miles of the farmer’s farm;\n(3) A vehicle owned or operated by the U.S. Department of Defense if the vehicle is controlled or operated by:\n(i) Active duty military personnel; or\n(ii) A member of the military reserves or National Guard on active duty, including personnel on full-time National Guard duty and personnel on part-time training; or\n(4) A vehicle traveling at a speed of not more than 25 miles per hour.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=21-1107","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"919d72159bc30a5491ec6cb87faa9518f53822aa56f32bd8f13ede53425b2d88","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-1106","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-1108"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
