Code, Transportation § 21–404","heading":"","body":"(a) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from a private road or driveway or from any other place that is not a highway shall stop.\n(b) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from a private road or driveway or from any other place that is not a highway shall yield the right-of-way to any other vehicle approaching on the highway.\n(c) In this section, “paved highway” means a highway that has a hard, smooth surface of gravel, shells, crushed stone, paving blocks, asphalt, concrete, or other similar substance.\n(d) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a paved highway from an unpaved highway shall stop.\n(e) The driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a paved highway from an unpaved highway shall yield the right-of-way to any other vehicle approaching on the paved highway.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=21-404","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"e125935c7c18a2f2a62d58a771ebcafcde0f94893c81251032a9960c0a2d07a9","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-403","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-404.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
