Code, Transportation § 21–511","heading":"","body":"(a) The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to:\n(1) A blind or partially blind pedestrian using a guide dog or carrying a cane predominantly white or metallic in color (with or without a red tip);\n(2) A deaf or hearing impaired pedestrian accompanied by a guide dog; or\n(3) A mobility impaired individual crossing a roadway while using any of the following mobility-assisted devices:\n(i) A manual or motorized wheelchair;\n(ii) A motorized scooter;\n(iii) Crutches; or\n(iv) A cane.\n(b) A person who is not blind or partially blind may not use or carry a white cane, a cane that is white tipped with red, or a chrome, nickel, aluminum, or other reflecting or shining metal cane, in the manner described in subsection (a)(1) of this section.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=21-511","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"c281ed4b4931ba45c66097ca54a8ae81bd8f0a7f4cb3c22b3e6d33e234cc07a6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-510","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-21-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
