Code, Transportation § 22–611","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “engine brake” means an add–on engine compression brake for diesel engines.\n(b) A person may not operate a commercial motor vehicle equipped with an engine brake unless the engine brake is connected to a properly functioning exhaust muffler system in constant operation when the vehicle’s ignition is engaged.\n(c) A person may not disable the exhaust muffler system of a commercial motor vehicle that is equipped with an engine brake except to make a bona fide repair or replacement.\n(d) A person convicted of a violation of this section is subject to:\n(1) For a first offense, a fine of not less than $250 and not exceeding $1,000; and\n(2) For a second or subsequent offense, a fine of not less than $500 and not exceeding $1,000.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=22-611","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"44f263f3707745c5e64284fc0d82b3e73f074862df0c8f6b8bb0aeef75c73149","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-22-610","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-22-612"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
