Code, Transportation § 24–101","heading":"","body":"(a) The provisions of this subtitle governing size, weight, and load do not apply to:\n(1) Emergency vehicles;\n(2) Farm equipment temporarily moved on a highway;\n(3) Vehicles owned by or under contract with the State or a political subdivision of the State when engaged in emergency operations or in snow or ice removal consistent with federal law; or\n(4) Any other vehicle driven under the terms and conditions of a permit issued under this subtitle.\n(b) A person may not drive on any publicly maintained highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles with a gross weight that exceeds:\n(1) The maximum registered weight limit for which the vehicle or combination is registered under § 24–110 of this subtitle; or\n(2) Any other weight limit established under the Maryland Vehicle Law.\n(c) A person may not permit to be driven on any publicly maintained highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles with a gross weight that exceeds:\n(1) The maximum registered weight limit for which the vehicle or combination is registered under § 24–110 of this subtitle; or\n(2) Any other weight limit established under the Maryland Vehicle Law.\n(d) A violation of the maximum weight provisions of this subtitle is not a moving violation for purposes of Title 16, Subtitle 4 of this article.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=24-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"6f229d1e62d8a1dff97e6edad4045b9c56bf92b3b4e8c73e7b17f8bb5c4c63ac","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-23-404","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-24-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
