Code, Transportation § 25–205","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies if:\n(1) The identity of the last registered owner of an abandoned vehicle cannot be determined;\n(2) The registration of the vehicle gives no address for the owner;\n(3) It is impossible to determine with reasonable certainty the identity and address of each secured party;\n(4) The certified mail notice required by § 25–204 of this subtitle is returned as undeliverable; or\n(5) The electronic notices authorized under § 25–204(a)(2) or (3) of this subtitle are not acknowledged or are returned as undeliverable.\n(b) Under one of the conditions described in subsection (a) of this section, a police department that takes an abandoned vehicle into custody shall give the required notice by posting a notice complying with the provisions of subsection (c) of this section in the circuit court of the county where the abandoned vehicle was found.\n(c) The notice:\n(1) May contain multiple listings of abandoned vehicles;\n(2) Shall contain the information required by § 25–204 of this subtitle; and\n(3) Shall be posted:\n(i) Within 15 days of the taking into custody of the vehicle; or\n(ii) If the notice by posting under this section is made because of the return as undeliverable of a prior notice by certified mail, return receipt requested, bearing a postmark from the United States Postal Service, within 7 days of the return of that prior notice.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=25-205","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"2cfd5502e4d03b8302f505c888369122727a9b0f17b80d7439a0d5801b159a69","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-25-204","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-25-206"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
