Code, Transportation § 8–736","heading":"","body":"(a) The political subdivisions of this State have full authority, under their respective zoning powers:\n(1) To zone areas for commercial or industrial purposes; and\n(2) In these areas, to govern the size, spacing, and lighting of outdoor signs.\n(b) Notwithstanding any provision of this part or any rule or regulation of the Administration:\n(1) Local zoning regulations that relate to outdoor signs in commercial or industrial areas shall govern within the zoned area; and\n(2) If a political subdivision adopts comprehensive zoning that includes the regulation of outdoor signs:\n(i) The Administration may so certify to the Federal Highway Administrator; and\n(ii) On certification, the control of outdoor signs in commercial or industrial areas transfers to the political subdivision.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=8-736","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"27a8b96c624c4c8baaee1c44fcc9b41fd647a2c5473970a8bfa3a6466b4c148b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-8-735","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-8-737"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
