Code, Transportation § 8–740","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, this part regulates the erection and maintenance of an outdoor sign along or near an expressway, only if:\n(1) The sign is 660 feet or less from the nearest edge of the right-of-way of the expressway; or\n(2) The sign is:\n(i) More than 660 feet from the nearest edge of the right-of-way of the expressway;\n(ii) Wholly or partly visible from the main traveled way of the expressway; and\n(iii) Intended to be read from the main traveled way of the expressway.\n(b) Except as provided in § 8-743 of this subtitle as to the removal of nonconforming signs, this part does not apply to:\n(1) An outdoor sign that is 660 feet or less from the nearest edge of the right-of-way of an expressway, if the sign was erected on or before June 1, 1959; or\n(2) An outdoor sign that is more than 660 feet from the nearest edge of the right-of-way of an expressway, if the sign was erected on or before July 1, 1975.","path":["Article - Transportation"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gtr\u0026section=8-740","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:01:38Z","sha256":"6bbf93a64a3e2dbba728c0e961c8d822b8fcc312cba3154ad6f0d99fe6e06378","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-8-739","next":"us-md/md.-code-transportation-8-741"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
