{"data":{"id":"us-me/29-a-m.r.s.-2355","jurisdiction":"us-me","citation":"29-A M.R.S. §2355","heading":"Interstate Highway System weight limits","body":"1.\nMaximum weight.\nNotwithstanding section 2353, subsections 1 and 2, a vehicle may be operated on the Interstate Highway System with maximum weights permitted by this subsection if the weight does not exceed 80,000 pounds or the following formula, whichever is less.\n| LN |\n| W = 500(-------- + 12N + 36) |\n| N - 1 |\nW = overall gross weight on any group of 2 or more consecutive axles to the nearest 500 pounds\nL = overall distance in feet between the extreme of any group of 2 or more consecutive axles\nN = number of axles in group under consideration.\n2.\nAxle limits.\nNotwithstanding sections 2353 and 2357, on the Interstate Highway System, the weight may not exceed:\nA.\nOn a single-axle unit:\n(1)\nWhen the GVW is 73,280 pounds or less, 22,000 pounds; or\n(2)\nWhen the GVW exceeds 73,280 pounds, 20,000 pounds;\nB.\nOn a tandem-axle unit, 34,000 pounds; and\nC.\nOn axles groups containing 2 or more axles, the maximum determined by the formula in subsection 1.\n3.\nThree-axle truck.\nA 3-axle truck with brakes on all wheels, with a GVW of 48,000 pounds or less, may be operated on the Interstate Highway System when hauling:\nA.\nForest products or raw ore from the mine or quarry to a place of processing, with a distance between extreme axles of not less than 18 feet; or\nB.\nConstruction materials, with a distance between extreme axles of not less than 16 feet.","path":["TITLE 29-A: MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC","CHAPTER 21: WEIGHT, DIMENSION AND PROTECTION OF WAYS","SUBCHAPTER 1: WEIGHT"],"source_url":"https://legislature.maine.gov/statutes/29-A/title29-Asec2355.html","current_through":"October 1, 2025","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T15:12:35Z","sha256":"7ac01e75d2435bfab1344455c0723d854d7a27f65c686fd2c5afebbb45e33f1e","source_id":"us-me","stale":false,"prev":"us-me/29-a-m.r.s.-2354-e","next":"us-me/29-a-m.r.s.-2355-a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
