Laws § 169.245","heading":"Transfer of unexpended funds; funds transferred not considered qualifying contribution; disbursement of funds ineligible for transfer.","body":"Sec. 45.\n\nA person may transfer any unexpended funds from 1 candidate committee to another candidate committee of that person if the contribution limits prescribed in section 52 or 69 for the candidate committee receiving the funds are equal to or greater than the contribution limits for the candidate committee transferring the funds and if the candidate committees are simultaneously held by the same person. The funds being transferred shall not be considered a qualifying contribution regardless of the amount of the individual contribution being transferred.\n\nUpon termination of a candidate committee, unexpended funds in the candidate committee that are not eligible for transfer to another candidate committee of the person under subsection (1) shall be disbursed as follows:\n\nGiven to a political party committee.\n\nGiven to a tax exempt charitable organization, as long as the candidate does not become an officer or director of or receive compensation, either directly or indirectly, from that organization.\n\nReturned to the contributors of the funds upon termination of the campaign committee.\n\nIf the person was a candidate for the office of state representative, given to a house political party caucus committee.\n\nIf the person was a candidate for the office of state senator, given to a senate political party caucus committee.\n\nGiven to an independent committee.\n\nGiven to a ballot question committee.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 169","Act Act-388-of-1976"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-169-245","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"aa558e137a9f32188e26e9e6c8688c1ede0e9f0690ba53619f2659b492f12b14","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-169.244a","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-169.246"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
