Laws § 18.1261c","heading":"Wood or paper products from sustainably managed forests or procurement systems.","body":"Sec. 261c.\n\nBeginning October 1, 2006, in addition to the requirements of sections 261, 261a, and 261b, in purchasing wood or paper products the department shall give preference to wood or paper products that derive from sustainably managed forests or procurement systems.\n\nPaper product and forest product companies purchasing raw materials from or through third parties may reasonably rely upon the representations of landowners, vendors, or brokers as to whether the raw materials derive from sustainably managed forests or procurement systems.\n\nAs used in this section, \"sustainably managed forests or procurement systems\" means forests or procurement systems that are certified by an independent third party using 1 or more of the following certification programs:\n\nThe sustainable forestry initiative/American forest and paper association.\n\nThe American tree farm systems/American forest foundation.\n\nThe Canadian standards associations sustainable forest management system standards.\n\nThe forest stewardship council.\n\nThe Pan-European forest certification.\n\nThe Finnish forest certification system.\n\nThe United Kingdom woodlands assurance scheme.\n\nInternational standards organization (ISO) standard 14001.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 18","Act Act-431-of-1984"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-18-1261c","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"ccb222655b70849b65d4473581cfe2767b6cef3afd0c6e4a3654e94b47cb4714","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-18.1261b","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-18.1261d"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
