Laws § 201.91","heading":"Vacancy; notice to appointing officer, body, or state treasurer.","body":"Sec. 1.\n\nIf a vacancy occurs in any public office, and the vacancy may be filled by appointment by the governor or otherwise, notice of that vacancy and of the facts why the vacancy exists, shall, within 10 days after the vacancy occurs, be given in writing to the officer, board or body, having power to fill the vacancy by appointment. The notice shall be given as follows:\n\nIf the vacancy is in any county office, except for the county clerk, by the clerk of that county.\n\nIf in the office of the circuit judge or judges or recorders of a city court, by the clerk of the county where that officer resides at the time of the vacancy.\n\nIf the vacancy is in the office of county clerk of any county, by the judge of probate of that county.\n\nIf the vacancy is in the office of secretary of state, by the state treasurer.\n\nIn all other cases, by the secretary of state.\n\nIf a vacancy occurs in an office the salary for which is paid in whole or part from the state treasury, the officer, board, or body having the appointing power shall immediately after receiving notice of the vacancy notify the state treasurer of that vacancy.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 201","Act Act-190-of-1879"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-201-91","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"8a069faa21052d130aab2b479fb45a17f139679fa437f2e1d18ffd37c252af2f","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-200.253","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-201.31"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
