Laws § 257.19a","heading":"“Disabled person” and “person with disabilities” defined.","body":"Sec. 19a.\n\n\"Disabled person\" or \"person with disabilities\" means a person who is determined by a physician, a physician assistant, or an optometrist as specifically provided in this section licensed to practice in this state to have 1 or more of the following physical characteristics:\n\nBlindness as determined by an optometrist, a physician, or a physician assistant.\n\nInability to walk more than 200 feet without having to stop and rest.\n\nInability to do both of the following:\n\nUse 1 or both legs or feet.\n\nWalk without the use of a wheelchair, walker, crutch, brace, prosthetic, or other device, or without the assistance of another person.\n\nA lung disease from which the person's forced expiratory volume for 1 second, when measured by spirometry, is less than 1 liter, or from which the person's arterial oxygen tension is less than 60 mm/hg of room air at rest.\n\nA cardiovascular condition that causes the person to measure between 3 and 4 on the New York heart classification scale, or that renders the person incapable of meeting a minimum standard for cardiovascular health that is established by the American heart association and approved by the department of public health.\n\nAn arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic condition that severely limits the person's ability to walk.\n\nThe persistent reliance upon an oxygen source other than ordinary air.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-19a","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"126f7380170ecbc33928b386bfc8fa6957be0a5a3191198f94db9a9540a8ab19","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.19","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.19b"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
