Laws § 257.626a","heading":"Drag races; prohibition on public highways; definition; prima facie evidence; applicability within Silver Lake State Park; \"drag race\" defined.","body":"Sec. 626a.\n\n(1) A person shall not do either of the following:\n\n(a) Operate a vehicle upon a highway, or any other place open to the general public, including an area designated for the parking of motor vehicles, in a speed or acceleration contest or drag race or to make a speed record.\n\n(b) Assist in a violation of subdivision (a).\n\n(2) The operation of 2 or more vehicles either at speeds in excess of the prima facie lawfully established speed or rapidly accelerating from a common starting point to a speed in excess of the prima facie lawful speed is prima facie evidence of a drag race.\n\n(3) Subsections (1) and (2) do not apply within the Silver Lake State Park scramble area.\n\n(4) As used in this section, \"drag race\" means the operation of 2 or more vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to out-distance each other over a common selected course or where timing is involved or where timing devices are used in competitive accelerations of speeds by participating vehicles.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-626a","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"cc0bfdd0e1c1cb31a859a016cfa3f6e484a2ced36232ddd18448b64936652173","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.626","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.626b"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
