Laws § 257.629c","heading":"Points and minimum fine; schedule; applicability of subsection (1).","body":"Sec. 629c.\n\n(1) Notwithstanding sections 320a and 907, a person who is determined responsible or responsible \"with explanation\" for a civil infraction for violating the maximum speed limit on a limited access freeway or part of a limited access freeway upon which the maximum speed limit is 55 miles per hour or more shall be ordered by the court to pay a minimum fine and shall have points entered on his or her driving record by the secretary of state only according to the following schedule, except as otherwise provided in subsections (2) and (3):\n\nNumber of miles per hour that the vehicle exceeded the applicable speed limit at the Minimum time of the violation Points Fine 1 to 5 0 $10.00 6 to 10 1 $20.00 11 to 15 2 $30.00 16 to 25 3 $40.00 26 or over 4 $50.00\n\nNumber of miles per hour\n\nthat the vehicle exceeded the\n\napplicable speed limit at the\n\nMinimum\n\ntime of the violation\n\nPoints\n\nFine\n\n1 to 5\n\n0\n\n$10.00\n\n6 to 10\n\n1\n\n$20.00\n\n11 to 15\n\n2\n\n$30.00\n\n16 to 25\n\n3\n\n$40.00\n\n26 or over\n\n4\n\n$50.00\n\n(2) Subsection (1) does not apply to a person operating a vehicle or vehicle combination for which the maximum rate of speed is established pursuant to section 627(5) to (7).\n\n(3) For a violation of a maximum speed limit on a limited access freeway by a person operating a vehicle or vehicle combination described in subsection (2), points shall be assessed under section 320a and fines shall be assessed under section 907.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-629c","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"ba7cd35d868d6c33242cfe581fd37519771b4eacaacc4ada8f8d0c159b4330a9","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.629b","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.629e"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
