Laws § 257.682b","heading":"Permitting person under 18 to ride in open bed of pickup truck prohibited; exceptions; civil infraction.","body":"Sec. 682b.\n\nExcept as provided in this section, an operator shall not permit a person less than 18 years of age to ride in the open bed of a pickup truck on a highway, road, or street in a city, village, or township at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour.\n\nSubsection (1) does not apply to the operator of any of the following:\n\nA motor vehicle operated as part of a parade pursuant to a permit issued by the governmental unit with jurisdiction over the highway or street.\n\nA military motor vehicle.\n\nAn authorized emergency vehicle.\n\nA motor vehicle controlled or operated by an employer or an employee of a farm operation, construction business, or similar enterprise during the course of work activities.\n\nA motor vehicle used to transport a search and rescue team to and from the site of an emergency.\n\nA person who violates this section is responsible for a civil infraction.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-682b","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"1ae92c44dd30c59f247ab74f1e42f17cd7925badd9997fd1b58afa17df7cb236","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.682a","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.682c"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
