Laws § 257.707","heading":"Muffler, engine, power mechanism, and exhaust system; requirements; prohibitions.","body":"Sec. 707.\n\nA motor vehicle, including a motorcycle or moped, shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke. A person shall not remove, destroy, or damage any of the baffles contained in the muffler, nor shall a person use a muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device upon a motorcycle or moped on a highway or street.\n\nThe engine and power mechanism of a motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke.\n\nA motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a properly operating exhaust system which shall include a tailpipe and resonator on a vehicle where the original design included a tailpipe and resonator.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-707","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"dbe25152e90e0eaddf472aca62c9075e6b8e6554ada1f6ccc9b8b395e53a088e","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.706","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.707a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
