Laws § 257.7a","heading":"“Commercial motor vehicle” defined.","body":"Sec. 7a.\n\n(1) \"Commercial motor vehicle\" means a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles used in commerce to transport passengers or property if 1 or more of the following apply:\n\n(a) It is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.\n\n(b) It has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle weight, whichever is greater, of 26,001 pounds or more.\n\n(c) It has a gross combination weight rating or gross combination weight, whichever is greater, of 26,001 pounds or more, inclusive of towed units with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle weight, whichever is greater, of more than 10,000 pounds.\n\n(d) A motor vehicle carrying hazardous material and on which is required to be posted a placard as defined and required under 49 CFR parts 100 to 199.\n\n(2) A commercial motor vehicle does not include a vehicle used exclusively to transport personal possessions or family members for nonbusiness purposes.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 257","Act Act-300-of-1949"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-257-7a","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"ec773617c11827d87116bd1f50635cad983e43a68855433f712edbb55792919d","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.79f","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-257.7b"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
