Laws § 259.482b","heading":"Width of primary surface; length of primary surface; elevation.","body":"Sec. 2b.\n\n(1) Based upon the most precise approach available or planned for either end of a runway, the width of the primary surface is 1 of the following:\n\n(a) For a utility runway that permits only a visual approach 250 feet (b) For a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach 500 feet (c) For other than a utility runway that permits only a visual approach 500 feet (d) For other than a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach and for which the FAA has established a visibility minimum that is greater than 3/4 of a statute mile 500 feet (e) For other than a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach and for which the FAA has established a visibility minimum that is as low as 3/4 of a statute mile or less 1,000 feet (f) For a runway that permits a precision instrument approach 1,000 feet\n\n(a) For a utility runway that permits only a visual approach\n\n250 feet\n\n(b) For a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach\n\n500 feet\n\n(c) For other than a utility runway that permits only a visual approach\n\n500 feet\n\n(d) For other than a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach and for which the FAA has established a visibility minimum that is greater than 3/4 of a statute mile\n\n500 feet\n\n(e) For other than a utility runway that permits a nonprecision instrument approach and for which the FAA has established a visibility minimum that is as low as 3/4 of a statute mile or less\n\n1,000 feet\n\n(f) For a runway that permits a precision instrument approach\n\n1,000 feet\n\n(2) Based upon the type of runway surface, the length of the primary surface is 1 of the following:\n\n(a) For a runway with a prepared hard surface or for which there are plans for a prepared hard surface, the length of the runway plus 200 feet beyond each end of the runway.\n\n(b) For a runway other than a runway described in subdivision (a), the length of the runway.\n\n(3) The elevation of a point on a primary surface is the same as the elevation of the point on the runway's centerline nearest to the point on the primary surface.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 259","Act Act-259-of-1959"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-259-482b","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"c707bbe83d0a19be5780b47814bab8e7b7d58239a8f32da91105b4319fb3d6d5","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-259.482a","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-259.482c"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
