Laws § 290.31","heading":"Weight per bushel.","body":"Sec. 1.\n\nThat whenever wheat, rye, shelled corn, corn on the cob, corn meal, oats, buckwheat, beans, clover seed, timothy seed, flax seed, hemp seed, millet seed, blue grass seed, red top seed, barley, dried apples, dried peaches, potatoes, potatoes (sweet), onions, turnips, peas, cranberries, dried plums, castor beans, salt, mineral coal, Hungarian grass seed, orchard grass seed, osage orange seed, beets, carrots or parsnips, shall be sold by the bushel, and no special agreement as to the measure or weight thereof shall be made by the parties, the measure thereof shall be ascertained by weight, and shall be computed as follows, viz:\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of wheat;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of rye;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of shelled corn;\n\n70 pounds for a bushel of corn on the cob;\n\n50 pounds for a bushel of corn meal;\n\n32 pounds for a bushel of oats;\n\n48 pounds for a bushel of buckwheat;\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of beans;\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of clover seed;\n\n45 pounds for a bushel of timothy seed;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of flax seed;\n\n44 pounds for a bushel of hemp seed;\n\n50 pounds for a bushel of millet or Hungarian grass seed;\n\n14 pounds for a bushel of blue grass seed;\n\n14 pounds for a bushel of red top seed;\n\n48 pounds for a bushel of barley;\n\n22 pounds for a bushel of dried apples;\n\n28 pounds for a bushel of dried peaches;\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of potatoes;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of sweet potatoes;\n\n54 pounds for a bushel of onions;\n\n58 pounds for a bushel of turnips;\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of peas;\n\n40 pounds for a bushel of cranberries;\n\n28 pounds for a bushel of dried plums;\n\n46 pounds for a bushel of castor beans;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of Michigan salt;\n\n80 pounds for a bushel of mineral anthracite coal;\n\n60 pounds for a bushel of mineral bituminous coal;\n\n14 pounds for a bushel of orchard grass seed;\n\n33 pounds for a bushel of osage orange seed;\n\n56 pounds for a bushel of beets;\n\n50 pounds for a bushel of carrots;\n\n50 pounds for a bushel of parsnips.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 290","Act Act-223-of-1863"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-290-31","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"70af615532e37224f377111486dc69101f260ebc730f37311b0a8a6bad7063cb","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-290.162","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-290.351"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
