Laws § 324.1603","heading":"Confiscation of seized property; jurisdiction; venue.","body":"Sec. 1603.\n\nThe following courts have jurisdiction to determine whether seized property shall be confiscated as provided in section 1604:\n\nThe district court, if the property is seized within this state, other than in a city having a municipal court or in a village served by a municipal court, and if the property is not appraised by the officer seizing the property at more than $25,000.00 in value.\n\nA municipal court, if the property is seized in a city having a municipal court or in a village served by a municipal court and if the property is not appraised by the officer seizing the property at more than $1,500.00 in value or $3,000.00 in value if the city in which the municipal court is located has increased the jurisdictional amount under section 22 of the Michigan uniform municipal court act, 1956 PA 5, MCL 730.522.\n\nThe circuit court, if the property is seized within this state and if the property exceeds the value specified in subdivision (a) or (b) as appraised by the officer seizing the property.\n\nIf the circuit court has jurisdiction under subsection (1), the proceeding shall be commenced in the county in which the property is seized.\n\nIf the district court has jurisdiction under subsection (1), venue for a proceeding shall be as follows:\n\nIn the county in which the property is seized, if the property is seized in a district of the first class.\n\nIn the district in which the property is seized, if the property is seized in a district of the second or third class.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 324","Act Act-451-of-1994"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-324-1603","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"f6f4ffca787bd9bc37dcc926de2b26e838f84a9647b6dd0aea745049dbf0de60","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-324.1602","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-324.1604"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
