Laws § 324.35506","heading":"Development of state strategy; factors; progress report to legislature; circulation of draft report; public hearing; report to legislature.","body":"Sec. 35506.\n\nBased on information received from the reporting departments and other sources identified in section 35504(1), the committee shall develop a state strategy that includes, but is not limited to, consideration of all of the following:\n\nReduction of cumulative adverse impacts of all state departments and agencies on biological diversity.\n\nResponsibility of each reporting department to conserve biological diversity and determine the costs of such actions.\n\nMethods of cooperation among reporting departments, other states, and provinces concerning ecosystems management.\n\nEstablishment of cooperative programs among governmental agencies, public and private ventures, universities and colleges, and the private sector.\n\nIdentification of habitats and species of special concern and methods to protect them.\n\nPrevention of extinction of species.\n\nProvisions for the long-term viability of ecosystems and ecosystem processes.\n\nDevelopment of areas demonstrating management techniques that conserve or restore native biological diversity.\n\nDevelopment of broad-based educational efforts regarding the importance of biological diversity and the need for conservation.\n\nDevelopment of criteria for evaluating the progress of this state in implementing the strategy.\n\nThe effects on human beings or the environment, taking into account the economic, social, and environmental costs and benefits of the conservation of biological diversity.\n\nThe effects of conserving biological diversity on agriculture and forestry.\n\nBy December 30, 1994, the committee shall submit to the legislature a report detailing progress made toward development of the strategy.\n\nBy June 30, 1995, the committee shall circulate a draft of the report described in subsection (4) and conduct a public hearing regarding the content of the draft report.\n\nBy December 30, 1995, the committee shall approve and submit to the legislature a report containing all of the following:\n\nThe recommended state strategy.\n\nSummaries of all written comments and reporting department reports received by the committee pertaining to the work of the committee.\n\nAn evaluation of reports submitted by reporting departments.\n\nAn evaluation of the cumulative impacts of the reporting departments on the biological diversity of this state.\n\nRecommendations pertaining to legislative options.\n\nRecommendations regarding whether the definitions in this part should be revised.\n\nRecommendations regarding whether there is a need to establish a biological diversity education center to set research priorities and provide leadership and coordination pertaining to fulfilling the policy of this state to maintain biological diversity.\n\nRecommendations concerning research priorities and personnel training to facilitate the implementation of the state strategy.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 324","Act Act-451-of-1994"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-324-35506","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"aef4af1c8a6fb26dd2a67f1ca5e2b8285f2a82d4db04e959dc6407ccc0bad389","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-324.35505","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-324.35701"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
