The plan shall include a definition of school health services and standards for the implementation of the plan. The department shall cooperate with the department of education and the state health planning and development agency in developing the plan to ensure coordination among those agencies.\n\nThe plan may include the provision of health services by and through intermediate and local school districts.\n\nThe plan shall be consistent with the program of school nursing services adopted pursuant to section 1252 of Act No. 451 of the Public Acts of 1976, being section 380.1252 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, and shall encourage employment of individuals certified by the department of education as school nurses pursuant to that section.\n\nThe plan shall not require health instructions for a pupil whose parent or guardian objects in writing and specifically requests that the pupil be excused.
