Laws § 339.1865","heading":"Transportation of dead human body; limitations; equipment requirements and maintenance.","body":"Sec. 1865.\n\n(1) A registrant shall not transport a dead human body unless either of the following applies:\n\n(a) The registrant has received authorization to transport a dead human body from a holder of a license for the practice of mortuary science, a county medical examiner, or an organ procurement agency.\n\n(b) The registrant is transferring a dead human body from a health facility to a licensed refrigeration facility.\n\n(2) A registrant must have equipment that includes, but is not limited to, the following:\n\n(a) 1 lightweight and 1 heavyweight body bag.\n\n(b) A cot that is secured or restrained inside an authorized vehicle to prevent movement during transport.\n\n(c) A cot cover for each cot used.\n\n(d) A first-aid kit.\n\n(e) A fire extinguisher.\n\n(f) Protective clothing that meets the needs of the registrant's employees that accompany the removal of a dead human body, including, but not limited to, disposable gowns, shoe covers, protective eyewear, gloves, masks, or waterproof aprons.\n\n(3) A registrant shall maintain the equipment listed under subsection (2) in a clean and sanitary manner and have it available whenever a dead human body is stored or in transit.\n\n(4) A registrant shall disinfect a container that was used in the removal of a dead human body after the removal and before the container is used again.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 339","Act Act-299-of-1980"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-339-1865","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"11c997f5d34afda6c48d896f9f98228250ffd21b71e83c216782a79629249cf1","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-339.1863","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-339.1867"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
