Laws § 35.1201","heading":"Short title; definitions.","body":"Sec. 1.\n\n(1) This act shall be known and may be cited as the \"private employer's veterans' preference policy act\".\n\n(2) As used in this act:\n\n(a) \"Private employer\" means a sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, or other private entity with 1 or more employees.\n\n(b) \"Veteran\" means an individual who meets both of the following:\n\n( i ) Is a veteran as defined in section 1 of 1965 PA 190, MCL 35.61.\n\n( ii ) Served at least 180 days of active duty in the armed forces of the United States or has a service-connected disability as a result of service in the armed forces of the United States.\n\n(c) \"Veterans' preference employment policy\" means a private employer's voluntary preference for hiring, promoting, or retaining a veteran over another equally qualified applicant or employee.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 35","Act Act-508-of-2014"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-35-1201","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"de2b76a4beaf73cb58a1b7cfc56e480dda328e7806429ad243d95404e6683611","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-35.865","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-35.1202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
